Brand new concept: The Harddiskmuseum, a museum of intangible art
When we mention the word museum our mind will automatically connect it to architecture. But the concept of art, culture and its significance may find shelter in other environments. It represents an intangible asset that stands and grows within the collective imagination, which might, or might not find shelter in a three-dimensional space.
Nowadays, this digital world comes to life through an endless online offer; art itself is a living image of the society in which it is implemented. The museum seen as an art center, cultural space, or gallery is completely connected to the idea of a three-dimensional space. But, does a hard disk itself may not be considered architecture? Isn`t the memory and the artists work being represented on hanging walls, either projected or installed? Are there no files in a museum? Does not the artist fingerprint remain printed on those walls? A museum can answer to all these questions, however in its broadest concept, etymologically right, a hard disk can also do it.
Within this background a new concept appears: The Hardiskmuseum, a new project by Solimán López and launched by ESAT LAB (R&D Laboratory, ESAT– Escuela Superior de Arte y Tecnología), with the support of PAC (Contemporary Art Platform) and Droide Comunidad. We also have two brilliant advisors participating in the museum, José Ramón Alcalá and Juan Martín Prada.
This new concept of a museum is made available for all kinds of art, which somehow may be digitally represented or depends on it to be visualized. In order to understand how works are being organized, we just have to pay attention to the following metaphor “a folder as exhibition hall”.
The museum will literally obey the keys and modus operandis of our modern art, invoking concepts like collections, temporary exhibitions, teaching, museum advisors, curators, complementary activities, restoration and of course, research. For this reason works have to be contemplated in situ, and although it seems strange for our times where everything is connected, this hard disk works off line. All digital work is exhibited on the hard disk and to activate it we have to touch different interfaces, adapted as buttons in different itinerary exhibitions.
“Liquid” represents the first Harddiskmuseum exhibition, includes important personalities both nationally and internationally using in their work the same idea of intangibility. This very first exhibition will represent a statement of ideas towards this kind of art proposals. It will be presented as part of the ANT project at Punto Gallery, Valencia in September 2015. Soon it will be on its way to Madrid.
